At the Opera

For those who did not come to the opera the 1st picture is of some stolpersteine that were in front of the steps at the entrance. The second picture is a panorama of the upper part of the theatre. The third picture is of one of the scenes from after the intermission. This was a picture in the hallway, we were not allowed to take pictures during the performance.

It was definetly not what I was expecting but still very amazing. The interior of the building is really quite beautiful, which you would not expect from the outside at all!

The building that houses the Komische Oper was destroyed during the war. But, mysteriously, the interior was not. So, it actually is more or less original. Definitely not what you expect to see, I agree.

I agree with Jennifer! It must've been a nice surprise when you walked in! Was the opera in English or German?

The opera was mainly in. German but there were some English words mixed in. Some of the songs were even in Italian I believe.

How in the world did the interior survive?! That's crazy. I figured that if the outside was destroyed, it would crumble inwards and pretty much implode.

I guess that shows the types of buildings built back then. Today, I doubt it would be the same.
